Set to launch from Florida on August 26, 2024, this will be the first private mission to have the astronauts step out into space.
Jared ISAACMAN will be commanding the mission like he already did for Inspiration 4 in 2021.
Scott POTEET will be the Pilot.
Anna MENON will be the flight’s medical officer .
Sarah GILLIS will be the flight’s mission specialist.
Anna and Sarah are SpaceX employees.
The purpose will be a free-flying mission tracing orbits that the crew hopes will go far from Earth.
The centerpiece of Polaris Dawn is the Spacewalk. It will be a breathtaking moment.
Polaris Dawn is supposed to be a 5 day mission.
looking for a time when there’s minimal risk from micrometeorite orbital debris, which determine exactly when Polaris Dawn will launch .
After reaching an orbit of 190 kilometers by 1200 kilometers, the crew will do extensive checks of SpaceX’s Dragon Capsule Resilience before going up to 1400 kilometers.
The Spacecraft will also take early passes through the high radiation zone known as the SOUTH ATLANTIC ANOMALY.
Science and research
The Polaris Dawn plans to accomplish 40 experiments.
The crew will also prep for the spacewalk, testing out the EVA (ExtraVehicular Activities ) suits.
The Spacewalk
Jared and Sarah will journey outside.
The EVA is expected to last 2 hours long from start to finish.
The crucial piece of equipment intended to make the EVA possible is SpaceX ´s spacesuits.
SpaceX has really created a futuristic suit and worked very hard to achieve it.
The team hopes that this mission will inspire future generations.
The Polaris Dawn crew will be the first crew to test Starlink laser-based communication in Space, providing valuable data for future space communications systems necessary for missions to the Moon, Mars and beyond.
Polaris Dawn is the first of 3 human space flights under the Polaris Program.
The program is named after Polaris, a constellation of 3 stars more commonly known as the North Star, which has been a guiding light throughout human history to help us navigate the world and inspire progress.
