For budgetary reasons, the Apollo 18 and 19 missions are cancelled. NASA decides to concentrate on Apollo 17 mission and decides to send a geologist to the Moon to obtain a maximum of information.
On December 11, 1972 Cernan and Schmitt ( the geologist) landed on the Moon. They go out to explore the Moon with the Jeep of NASA and take a multitude of photographs and samples. The two astronauts move away more and more from the lunar module and are at the end of their strength but they know that the Apollo 17 mission will be the last one for a long time and in fact they do not know yet how right they are.
50 years later, Gene Cernan is still the last man to have walked on the Moon.
The Apollo program has allowed humanity to understand its natural satellite and has opened the way to other space projects. In addition, this program allowed to make great technological progress and to prove that with a lot of perseverance, humanity is able to realize great things.
In other words, NEVER GIVE UP AND YOU WILL REACH THE STARS.
